Deduplication produces 15 times more capacity
Major data growth for Municipality of Esbjerg leads to new requirements
For the Municipality of Esbjerg, IT operations for the municipalitys staff and citizens are a high priority area. This means that quantities of data are growing enormously – and quickly – thereby making major demands of the storage and backup environment. This is why the municipality is now working in partnership with Proact to redefine its IT infrastructure.
"Proacts bid was best, and their insight into and ideas for our procedures gave a really good impression."
The Proact solution is based on hardware and software from EMC. The first step was to replace the municipality's backup solution with a new solution. This solution simplifies, automates and centralises backups and any reestablishment processes. All primary backups are made to disk, and then a representative data section is taken according to intelligent principles and saved to tape. Inbuilt data deduplication means that capacity is now 15 times better than in a traditional backup solution. The Municipality of Esbjerg was therefore able to reduce its capacity requirements when the new solution was introduced.
"Proact's bid was best, and their insight into and ideas for our procedures gave a really good impression," explains Esben Foverskov, Head of IT Infrastructure at the Municipality of Esbjerg.
